Location and features

The buildings of the educational institution are located in the very centre of Liverpool, at Metquarter. The Liverpool Media Academy became the first educational institution in the UK to transform a shopping centre into a modern campus for students studying media, music or performing arts. This unique place combines learning and entertainment, which makes it ideal for creative individuals.

There are Tesco buildings, Everyman Cinema as well as 200 Degrees Coffee Shop nearby, where students can relax after a busy day in the dance studio or academy’s creative spaces. All the necessary infrastructure is at hand. So, you don’t have to take long walks and can focus more on your studies.

Another pleasant feature of studying here is access to the largest gastronomic space in Liverpool, the GPO Food Market. There are twelve independent kitchens there, offering over 400 different dishes every day. They are available for orders from lunchtime. Profile and history

The Liverpool Media Academy is a private institution. In addition to musical disciplines, which include performing arts, musical theatre and dance, you can study acting, TV production and digital games art.

The Liverpool Media Academy was founded by brothers Richard and Simon Wallace in 2009. In February 2019, the LMA team was joined by renowned businessman Sir Terry Leahy and Bill Currie’s company, who became the institution’s shareholders. Later, the team was also joined by famous musician Robbie Williams. The number of students quickly reached almost a thousand.

In 2020, the academy presented plans to Liverpool City Council to transform the upper floors of the Metquarter shopping centre into classrooms, recording studios and student areas. Those plans were implemented at the highest level.

LMA Choir

The choir, which consists of 14 students from the music and musical theatre departments as well as recent graduates, occupies a special place in LMA. It was founded in 2016 and was led by the institution’s creative director Stephanie Wallace-Carr.

The choir once wowed the audience with a flash mob performance of Bruno Mars’ Just the Way You Are at the Liverpool ONE shopping centre. The performance was organised at the request of Carl Gilbertson, who wanted to make a touching surprise for his wife Laura, who suffered from multiple sclerosis. It was a grandiose gift on their 10th wedding anniversary.

The video became a real sensation on the Internet. Social media users liked it a lot and actively shared it with their friends. This step was very important for Carl because the song was true for the couple. Carl loves Laura despite her illness, just as she is. He said that she was perfect for him.

The LMA choir also took part in the Pitch Battle BBC show, where they finished second in the first episode. Their popularity continued to grow and in 2018, they performed on The X Factor, where they took 13th place, being eliminated in the second week of the competition. Despite such an early exit, the choir’s performance attracted the attention of the audience and proved the talent of the academy’s students.

Free study

The Liverpool Echo reported on the initiative of a Liverpool college to donate £250,000 for education. This step is aimed at supporting students from low-income families who, thanks to the grant, could obtain higher education without a financial burden on their families. This initiative was implemented in partnership with the Liverpool Media Academy.

The head of the college noted that the free course will allow many young people to realise their potential and increase their chances of a successful career. She emphasised that education is an important tool for improving the quality of life and ensuring equal opportunities for all.

People involved in the aforementioned college also noted that their institution offers a variety of courses, including programming, art, design and many other popular specialities. They could help acquire the skills necessary for the modern labour market.
